Stock Market Today: Nvidia Record, Bitcoin Near High
The stock market today opened the first full week of October on a cautious note, with futures little changed after a Friday rally lifted the Nasdaq to a record. Investors are balancing a softer September jobs report against still-elevated Treasury yields, high energy prices, and a busy week of earnings and central-bank speeches, according to Investopedia and Reuters market coverage.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 hovered near unchanged in early trading, while Nasdaq futures slipped slightly, Investopedia reported. The pause follows a session in which weaker-than-expected hiring eased fears of another near-term Federal Reserve rate increase.
Stock Market Today After Friday’s Record Close
On Friday, major indexes rose after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported just 29,000 jobs added in September, well below expectations near 90,000. The Nasdaq Composite led gains and touched an all-time high, while the Dow and S&P 500 finished mixed for the week, according to Investopedia’s Monday preview.
Chip stocks were a focus again Monday. Reuters reported that Intel fell more than 4% in premarket trading and Micron eased, while Nvidia edged higher after touching a record high on Friday. Other large technology names had also posted strong gains in the prior session, including Tesla, Dell, Broadcom and ASML, amid renewed optimism about artificial-intelligence spending.
- Dow and S&P 500 futures: near flat early Monday
- Nasdaq futures: down about 0.2% in early trade
- Nvidia: at or near a record high after Friday’s close
- 10-year Treasury yield: around 5.28%
- WTI crude: near $90 per barrel; Brent near $100
- Gold: around $4,180 an ounce
Nvidia and the AI Trade
Nvidia remains the bellwether for the AI trade. The chipmaker reached a new all-time high on Friday, lifting its market value to just under $5.7 trillion, according to market reports. Early Monday, Barron’s reported Nvidia shares rising in early trading as investors pointed to strong results from supplier Foxconn, which reported a sharp year-over-year revenue increase and said AI-related operations should keep growing in the fourth quarter.
Options markets have also reflected that momentum. Traders Union, citing CNBC data, reported that options pricing implied roughly even odds that Nvidia could reach a $6 trillion valuation by the end of October. Analysts caution that such expectations leave little room for disappointment, especially with valuations already stretched and Treasury yields near multi-year highs.
Bitcoin Near a Nine-Month High
Cryptocurrency markets moved alongside technology shares. Investopedia reported bitcoin trading around $86,200 on Monday morning, near a nine-month high. In the prior session, bitcoin briefly approached $87,000–$88,000 before pulling back, according to several market summaries, as traders weighed the softer jobs data and shifting expectations for Fed policy.
Citigroup raised its 12-month bitcoin price target in recent days, according to market coverage, citing improving activity and returning exchange-traded fund demand. Crypto-linked stocks gained in sympathy, though traders note that bitcoin has yet to hold a sustained breakout above the high-$80,000s without stronger follow-through.

debate without settling it. Reuters reported that traders now see roughly an 80% chance the Fed holds rates steady at its October meeting, according to the CME FedWatch tool, though a December increase remains widely priced in. The central bank’s next meeting is scheduled for October 27–28.
Investors will parse speeches from senior central bankers this week, including Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller at the Istanbul Economic Forum, for clues about how officials view inflation and financial conditions, Reuters reported. Inflation data due in mid-October will be the next major checkpoint.
Earnings are also on the calendar. Investopedia listed Delta Air Lines, PepsiCo and Levi Strauss among the notable companies reporting this week, offering a read on travel demand, consumer staples and discretionary spending. In deal news, Reuters reported that software firm PTC jumped sharply in premarket trading after Schneider Electric agreed to acquire it in an all-cash deal valuing its equity at about $22.6 billion.
Not everyone is bullish. Reuters noted that brokerage Panmure Liberum warned the equity bull market could be nearing its end and forecast a steep decline by the end of 2027. With yields at 5.28%, oil still elevated amid Middle East tensions, and the euro at its lowest against the dollar since May 2025, according to Investopedia, markets are entering October with plenty of crosscurrents — and little margin for error.
